PRIMITIVE SNOWMAN MAGNETS CABOCHON

(Warning Lots of Snowmen Photos!)

I made these Primitive Snowman Magnets:

 

out from these $1.19 party favor button pins:

The party favor buttons can be found at the Dollar Mart for only $1.19 for a pack of 12. Wow!

Just take them apart by pressing them open, the pins on the back twist off with a setting and here they are all apart:

The little plastic cabochon tops tops are usually that price for only them!

And I just began by painting the backs of the Jesus inserts. I did not want to paint over the Jesus picture, lol, I'm just like that.

Then after painting about 24 of these all in antique white, I started to add some eyes:

And then I started to just free hand on some noses and then some mouths on some:

Some of them I took some very very light reddish pink and gave their cheeks some rosey, winter color.

And then I took some magnets, also found in the Dollar Mart, for a $1.19 for a pack of 20! Unbelievable! I bought all they had! And I glued them on the back with my favorite glue ever, E6000. It is found at Wal-Mart.

And then on the fronts I took some tears of homespun fabric, tied little knots in them, and glued them on with E6000 glue also, as little scarves.

And here is a set of them sitting and drying.

They are starting to look super cute!

After they dried, I tried the magnets out on a metal lid. They hold great!

And then I figured on some (not assembled yet) I would go back add some glitter to the faces. To give the feel of maybe frost. I did this with simple craft varnish mixed with a dash of silver glitter. White glitter would have been better, but I was out of the great, tiny stuff:

And here is some with the glitter varnish and some easy print out 3x5 papers from Avery.com to make them look better in the packages:

Some of them I decided to put the Pins back on the back to mix them up. 

Who knows, they may be a cute winter pin to wear!

And the others, I left as magnets. Magnets are my all time favorite thing to make with snowmen!

I think they will be a great grab as you go item that people can keep or give as a cheap gift.

PINE CONE SNOWMAN ORNAMENTS

I had an assortment of craft items laying in front of me and I had an "Ah-Ha" moment.  There was a bowl full of snowman heads laying beside a stack of pine cones.  I wandered what the heads would look like on top of the pine cones as ornaments?  And here is how my thought turned out.

I had these basic pre-painted snowman heads from a previous craft lot I bought at the Dollar Mart, the bag was only $1.19.  I added the long noses and eyes and such.  But if you don't have them, don't worry, you can use those little bags of unfinished beads from Wal-Mart in the craft section. They are the exact same thing.

And then just gather you up some pine cones.  These in the photo came from an auction lot and appear to have been on a real tree at once.  But at the Dollar Mart right now, in the fall/flowers section, you can find the bag of fake pine cones of approximately 10 or so, for only $1.19.

And all you really do is take some E6000 glue (also from WalMart- it's awesome stuff) and glue the snowman head to the top of the pine cone.

Then just let it dry and add a strip of torn homespun around it's neck to look like a scarf.  Then to be able to some of them hang as ornaments, I tied another piece of homespun around the neck, but left it longer as a hanger.

 For the ones I am taking to my Booth #555 at the Peddlers Mall, I put them inside a clear baggie (from the baking section) and tied the top with homespun.

 By putting them in a clear bag, it makes for a great way to give as a gift if someone prefers.

PRIMITIVE SNOWMEN JINGLE BELLS | Various Styles Over the Years

It's that time of year again! The time that I really start to begin painting more Christmas decorations for my Booth#555 at the Peddlers Mall. I got the Christmas spirit in September, lol.

And today I am starting on a new batch of Snowmen Jingle Bells. I got inspiration for these from the Oriental Trading Catalog. Theirs sale for $16.00 per dozen.

To buy them at $16.00 per dozen to resell wasn't really leaving me any room for profit in my craft booth. So I decided to find the plain jingle bells, same size and paint them. I found a package of 6 at the Dollar General Store for a $1.50. And then after the Christmas sale, I bought all the rest of them for half off! Totally amazing deal! So here's what I have started with:

I seriously buy every box of these I find, especially at the after Christmas sales! I will get around to using them, believe me!

I've came a long way through the years with these. I started making them back in November of 2010. You simply paint a base coat. I hang the hangers on a strip of wire and spray paint a bunch at once. And then just sit and paint on the snowmen in sections. Bodies, heads, arms, clothes, then snowflakes, etc. I do them in sections like that to not have to be changing my paint color much. And a hint is to lay them in egg carton tops, lined with paper towels, to help keep from rolling around. Here's what my first batch ever, looked like:

Raised back to $1.59 each since I finished them in wax & began to package them.

These I experimented with dipping them in hot, butter colored wax, after painting. It made a great finish. 

Can't really see it in the pics, but looks pretty good. And the middle one is an old, black crow wearing a santa hat. 

 

Being as I did the extra wax dipping, is why I raised these back to $1.59 each.

Keep in mind, these are great crafts to make and sell. Especially if you find them in boxes of 6 marked down to half price to only $.75cents. That makes you only have like 12cents each in them. Sometimes even less if the sale is bigger. Then just your time to paint with paint you already have, probably. 

They are steady sellers for my craft booth. And with changing the theme a little each year, it makes a great item for people to look for. Sometimes I even put the date on the back of them. When I remember to, that is.

Barnwood Mantel

Below is the fireplace mantel I asked my husband to build to go around the great stove I found at the flea market, here's that post, last December. He got it done, but I haven't painted it yet or added any embellishments. But I kinda like it plain how it is.

COAL BUCKET with Snowman

Here's an old metal coal bucket I won from a local auction for only $2.00. 

It was a flat, silvery, tin color when I got it. 

I painted it up in a gloss black first. 

Then I took a toothbrush and flicked some white paint drippings on it from the brush effect.  Just dip the toothbrush in some watered down white paint, hold your finger over it, running it down the bristles and flick the paint on. 

It ends up looking like snow.

Then I painted a stencil saying on that I got from eBay, "Primitives, blessings from our past."

 And lastly, I free-handed a primitive looking snowman on with stars as buttons. 

I just love painting snowmen on anything. lol.

Oh, as you can see in the pic below, at the top left,

I had finished this up by putting a coat of sealer on it.

It's found in the craft paint section.

And it just gives it a coating of protection against scratches.

PRIMITIVE Snowman Bench

Here's a cute, wintery, snowman craft idea to spruce up an old bench you may have.
I bought the plain old blue bench at a flea market for $2.00
(BELOW.)
  

First, I painted it with a flat black paint with a paintbrush, not spray paint.

You want it to last and hold up to wear and tear marks.

I redone in the "Faith-Family-Friends" theme. 

Since it's winter, I even added a little prim snowman to the front.

I painted it black and added some stenciled wording using Delta stencil paint.

The Delta stencil paint and primitive stencils can be found on eBay.

Then free handed a primitive looking snowman on the front.

I think it makes it look so much better. 

And will look great sitting in someones "Prim" style home.

I just love it.
